Cafe Murano, St James

The other day, I met my friend Leigh for a catch-up between meetings. We met at Cafe Murano, one of both our favourites (though we typically go to Quattro Passi instead).

We shared two starters, the octopus carpaccio served with orange and blood orange, watercress and hazelnuts. Really good.

Then we shared the salami, figs and homemade ricotta. Another real winner!

Then, as we couldn’t resist, we got the spinach gnocchi with morels, peas and chestnuts. This tasted a bit too wintery with the warm day out side, given the mushrooms and chestnuts, but it was otherwise very good. But I’d probably wait for colder weather to try it again.

And for dessert, we had the salted caramel custard tart with the milk sorbet.

This place is great, every time I’ve come, it’s been a very good meal. And much more affordable than its mother restaurant, Murano, at the Connaught Hotel. Definitely one to try if you’re in St James or Mayfair for the afternoon.
