Back in Florida, I had meetings in Palm Beach and Jupiter for the day. In between two meetings, I found a stripmall with a delicious-looking sit-down restaurant, Toojay’s. You walk inside the huge room (high ceilings, tons of tables) and you have a deli counter on the side, and people waiting to take their meals away. Or, as most people are doing, you can sit and stay for lunch.Toojay’s is your typical Jewish, New York deli, transplanted to Florida (though, listening to all of the seemingly-retired customers, it sounds like they had all previously lived in New York!)
Check out the menu.. how great is it that you can add schmear or chopped liver to any of your sandwiches or wraps? I thought about it, but then decided that neither went very well with a fish salad!
I ended up going for the whitefish salad (doesn’t that sound delicious?) and it was tiny when it came (haha, check it out below, two huge scoops). And delicious. Lots of fish, very light on the mayo, with all the trimmings, including a very good coleslaw.
And some sweet potato fries on the side, basically because I could. Crispy and tasty. This was such a great find in a random stripmall in Jupiter, though it did make me miss New York a bit.. I’ll definitely be back if the opportunity arises!
