The Goat in Chelsea recently opened up under new management and a new name. It used to be The Goat and Boots, a local pub, but revamped into a gastropub with a great wood-fire oven and an upstairs cocktail bar last summer.
This is one of my favourite local places to grab a light dinner – along with small dishes/ appetizers and pizzas, there are a large number of main dishes that are quite good…. though I always get stuck between wanting a pizza or small dishes!
I went with mom when she was in town, and we had arrived thinking we would get several small plates to share (I still lobbied for the polenta fries with truffle) but ended up getting pizzas instead, they sounded too good to resist!
My mother got the goats cheese and vegetable pizza, which was much healthier than mine… that, along with the cucumber-fragranced tap water they served made her meal practically healthy!
I opted for a heavier pizza, with sausage, mushrooms and gorgonzola. Very rich, tough to finish, but so good. In the end, we didn’t need any sides or starters!
One day, I do hope to finally try one of the main dishes on the menu, whether the grilled monkfish, the poussin, or one of their delicious-sounding main salads… but for now, I can’t seem to get that far on the menu! I’m thrilled to have this place as a local.
